 CALIBRATION AND ARCHIVING PRODUCTS

MORE LIKELY TO BE ARCHIVAL CDs / DVDs
taiyo yuden DVD-R100 pack 8x Premier Line DVD-R 8x Silver Lacquer

The Taiyo Yuden company (now owned by JVC) is credited as being the first to manufacture CDs, and it is consistently rated highest for both archival quality and consistency of providing error-free discs. These are priced competitively, and the Meritline company continues to have manufacturing agreements, and these are guaranteed NOT to be "fakes."

BE SURE TO ORDER THE DVD-R (DVD minus R) BRAND, either with water protection or without, depending upon your choice. Re-Writeable DVDs (DVD-RW) do not reliably read on every brand of computer: DO NOT BUY THESE! The DVD+R (DVD plus R) brand is a newer manufacturing mode developed by the Sony Corporation. DVD-R is the original mode of manufacturing and goes back furthest in time.

FLUORESCENCE REFERENCE SLIDES
fluorescent reference slides

Use fluorescent reference slides for creating a flatfield image to correct for uneven illumination. These can also be used as reference standards to check against equipment from session to session. It isn't absolutely necessary to match the color of the fluorescent reference slide to the fluorophore or channel that you are using. Often the orange and green colored reference slides are too bright. The blue reference slide, on the other hand, produces low fluorescence and is more ideal for use.

STEP WEDGES FOR DENSITOMETRY
stouffer step wedges

These step wedges are indispensible for densitometry, especially for electrophoretic gels. If you are not used to working on a logrithmic scale, purchase the linear wedges. These are available in both transmission and reflectance. Some are NIST rated.
