Visualization: Pseudocolor Scientific Images with Color Bar

How to create pseudocolored image to better show evidence when it is difficult to see. Note that several other pseudocoloring methods can be found in Image > Adjustments > Gradient Maps.

Better accomplished in Image J or Photoshop.

  1. Check to see if image is 8-bit or 8-bit Color. If not, convert: Image > Type.
  2. Under Image > Look Up Tables, select Spectrum or any number of colorizing schemes.
  3. Do the same with the color bar.
  4. Layout in Image J, Photoshop, Illustrator, Inkscape or other program to connect color bar to image.
