How to adjust tones to a target algorithm in which darkest and lightest tones get amplified, especially useful for second harmonic imaging.

How to Equalize images in GIMP

Follow directions in video except that Equalize is found under Colors > Auto > Equalize.

How to Equalize in Image J

Duplicate Image: Image > Duplicate

Under Edit > Options > Appearance choose correct bit depth to match image (bit depth can be found under Image > Show Info).

Process > Enhance Contrast > Equalize

To reduce equalize effect:
Under Image > Stacks choose Images to Stack
Under Image > Stacks choose Z-Project and choose Average from drop down.
