Noise Reduce: Image Size Method

How to reduce noise by resampling (re-sampling) image for microscope and other images. Often an effective way to remove or reduce noise for subsequent image analysis.

How to Reduce Noise Using Image Scaling (Image Size) Method in GIMP

• Same steps as in video, except that the Image Size box is called Scale Image: Image > Scale Image.
• When pasting, use Edit > Paste As > New Layer.

How to Reduce Noise Using Image Scaling (Image Size) Method in Image J

  1. Image > Duplicate to preserve original image.
  2. Image Size is found under Image > Scale.
    Set Interpolation to Bicubic.

Iteratively shrink image scaling at varied amounts (e.g., 20%) and re-scale to enlarge to original size (e.g. 500%).

Visually evaluate removal of noise compared to blur until blur is at minimal level.
