How to convert color brightfield (chromagenic dyes – e.g., H&E – labeled by histologists) images from the microscope to grayscale or monochrome in Photoshop.

How to Convert Color to Grayscale in GIMP

  1. Under Colors > Components, choose Channel Mixer: choose predominant color or choose iteratively by eye.
  2. Save channel adjustments by clicking Save button.

How to Convert Color to Grayscale in ImageJ

Under Image > Color, select Split Channels, and the 2 undesired images (channels) can be closed.
…or, under Image > Color, choose RGB to Luminance.
